'Paris-Madrid-Gordon Bennett' inspired 'heroic age' c1905 MERCEDES racing car desk piece in Pewter. Important early signed item by sculptor W. Frink. Missing bonnet top and china inkwell. Sothebys sold a similar item in 1987, and the VSCC present one as a major annual trophy. 15 inches long. The original sculpture is illustrated in 'The Star and The Laurel' Beverly Rae Kimes, plate 55.
