This superb 1926 Bullnose Morris Cowley is one of the last to be produced, and benefits from the
improvements made over the years including 4 wheel brakes which were standard for the 1926 season.. It drives very well and comes with a good hood and side screens. She carries her original Gloucestershire
registration DF 331.
The car was first registered on the 10th July 1926 from Hartwell’s Garage, Bourton on the Water,
Gloucestershire. It was purchased by Mr Arthur Bowen of Cheltenham, who was a local bee keeper. A letter suggests he was able to obtain petrol though the war as a food producer. The Bullnose was still in use up to the 1950s.
The car was then sold to Mr Chandler of Bredon who owned the village garage. He never used the Morris so it stood at the back of the garage with flat tyres until the 80s when he arranged for the Cooke Group to restore the car to its former glory. (see letters in the history file).
On its return Mr Chandler was said to have been very disappointed as the cross drive timing gears were not replaced and therefore made the engine noisy at certain revs. (see more letters !). The car was little used after the rebuild but always stored in excellent dry conditions.
Recently, a replacement engine block has been sourced, and rebuilt with the timing gears now available from a local engineering firm and is running very well. It is hoped to have a fresh MoT and tax for the coming year.
A superb example of the most attractive body style available in 1926, with the great advantage of 4-wheel brakes and in all round excellent condition.
