By 1958 when TAA 737 was registered the Plus 4 Morgan had almost reached its final incarnation (apart from the much later 1980s models). The cowled radiator had settled in its final, lower and more attractive form based on the 4/4 shape, and the engine was now normally a Triumph TR 3 rather than the reliable but rather stodgy Vanguard unit fitted in earlier years, and indeed still available until 1958. This car in fact is presently fitted with the slightly later and more powerful TR 4 engine, of 2138cc and producing 104bhp at 4700rpm with 132ft lbs torque at 3000rpm. The original 2 litre TR 3 is available with the car. The four
seater bodywork is eminently practical, though rear-seat passengers receive a severe buffeting at speeds around 100mph due to their elevated seating position. The extra accommodation is, however very useful, and as the body weighs little more than a 2-seater, the splendid performance is not dulled.
TAA 737 was first registered on 27 January 1958 in Hampshire, and by 1970 was in Worcestershire, later moving to its current owner in Winchcombe. The car was restored in 1977 with the TR 4 engine, and given a new chassis, ash body frame and alloy front wings whilst retaining all the other original panels. The car then was little used, and has since spent the last 12 years in storage in dry but less then perfect conditions in a Cotswold barn, and is now offered ready for an easy restoration. The car is basically very original and retains the early very bold louvres, though the dashboard has been altered. Four seater Plus 4s are now very difficult to find, and this attractive early example has enormous potential, as Morgan parts and expertise are in abundant supply. The 4 seaters in particular are sought after for their added practicality, and because they were not made in large numbers.
A V5c document safeguards the original 1958 registration number, and a buff log book accompanies the car.
