1952 Morris Oxford
The new post-war range of Morris cars, all designed by Alec Issigonis and introduced in 1948 and all with completely new styling comprised The Star, “Minor MM”, the large six cylinder “MS” and the “Oxford MO”. All wore a strong family resemblance, the Oxford in particular closely resembling a larger version of the Minor, with its rounded “poached egg” lines and split windscreen.
Produced from 1948 to 1954 the Oxford had a 1476cc sidevalve 4-cylinder engine in an 8 ft 1 inch wheelbase chassis (nearly a foot longer than the Minor), with independant front suspension by torsion bar, a 4 speed gearbox and 15 inch wheels. Standard bodywork was an attractive 4 door saloon with a roomy and well equipped interior and leather upholstery.
767 UXG was produced in 1952 to right hand drive specification and like many of her sisters left Cowley for Australia, where the Morris Marque was popular for its robust construction and easy economical operation. In 1988 the car was returned to the UK and given her age related registration number. A recent high quality respray in the correct shade of Moss Green was carried out, and the car now looks very smart with a matching green leather interior and a set of narrow-white-wall tyres. The Oxford has recently been recommissioned after a period in dry storage, and has had a complete brake overhaul and is now totally reliable and ready to use. The car comes from the collection of a local enthusiast, and has a new MoT certificate and a V5c document. Certainly one of the best most origin original MO Oxfords in existence.
