The Sports model ‘65’ was introduced in 1933 on the long 6ft 9 inch chassis as a sports two seater, rather than a racing car, but in broad terms it represented an updated ‘Ulster’ in the Seven line up. By 1934, the model became known as the ‘Nippy’ but was mostly unchanged from the previous years production except that the body was now panelled in steel rather than aluminium, making it slightly heavier but infinitely more durable.

This example, first registered on 11 July 1934 was rebuilt in the late 1960s for use as a trials car. This involved rebuilding the body without opening doors, as a huge aid to rigidity. At this time an earlier pre 1931 engine was also fitted, but the original block and crankcase are still with the car. A four speed gearbox was retained and the present owner acquired the ‘Nippy’ some 10 years ago as a project from its owner in Bosbury, where it had been since 1970. Time has prevented the completion of the work, but the car now has rebuilt 17 inch wheels with Dunlop tyres, a pair of replacement steel front wings of the correct pattern and retains its original radiator with stoneguard, windscreen etc though the front axle is now the straight saloon type rather than the sports dropped variety. The boot lid is also missing, but would not be difficult to replace.

This represents an excellent opportunity to purchase an original Nippy, albeit somewhat modified, but with most of the correct parts to effect a rebuild. A V5c safeguards the period registration number.
