Registration No. EM 2087
Chassis No. AF 23293
Engine No. AD 1537
Estimate £5,000 - £7,000

The Talbot 14/45 was introduced at the 1926 London Motor Show, and caused an immediate sensation in
the Motoring Press and public alike. The brilliant Georges Roesch had designed a ‘Large comfortable
family car of quality, capable of 60mph and 20mpg, endowed with excellent steering, road holding and brakes, and available for only £395.’ (Anthony Blight, ‘Georges Roesch and the Invincible Talbot’). The new model saved the bacon of the Talbot marque and breathed new life into the Barlby Road works as they struggled to keep up with demand, and not only saw the first flowering of Roesch’s design genius, but also marked the start of a long line of superb cars.
EM 2087 was first registered in 1928 as an AD model Coupe Cabriolet with dickey seat. The hood folds down neatly and the framed glass windows are on winders. The car has been in the ownership of one
family since the early 1960s, when it formed part of a Talbot collection, and was in daily use. At some stage the body was mounted on a spare AF chassis, but retaining the original engine No. AD 1537. The original chassis, AD 23151, is available as lot 605.
The extremely elegant coachwork is in very good order, despite its long sojourn in a barn, and although some parts were removed many years ago to commence a rebuild, everything is with the car to allow a straightforward restoration. These cars are now well catered for with an enthusiastic and efficient owners club, and their smooth and efficient 6-cylinder engines endow them with good performance and VSCC
competition potential.
